Let's face it; these are tough economic times. You could probably use some part time income, but you're already working one job. Or maybe you don't need a lot of money, and you just want a job that pays well, but is part time. Well, you should consider applying for a job parking cars for a valet service. If you're available nights or weekends or both, valet parking attendant could be right up your alley.

What's so great about the job? Well, one of the best things about valet parking is the money. You won't be able to retire in a few years from what you make, but the tips can be very, very good. Most people know that they should tip the person that parks their car. And most of them will. When it's raining, your tips will be even bigger. And don't forget you'll also be getting a base wage.

Another reason is atmosphere. Who wants to be tied down inside a factory or retail business when you can be out meeting people, making them happy, and collecting cash the same day? You'll be working at fancy restaurants, museums, charity balls, weddings, etc. And people will be glad to see you!

Doing your own scheduling is another great benefit. Many valet companies will let you pick what days you're available. Want to take your wife out to see that new chick flick that's all the rage? Don't sign up to work that night. Your daughter has a big volleyball game this weekend? No problem. Pretty sweet, huh?

What does it take to get a job in this industry? Well, first, you've got to have a very good driving record. People will be trusting you with their cars, and your employer will want to make sure you know what you're doing before you get the job. So if you've had a couple fender benders, you're probably out of luck. Same thing for traffic violations. But if your record is clean, you're in great shape.

You should have a professional appearance, too. Sorry, but if you're covered with tattoos, you're probably not going to get hired. You can talk to your prospective employer, and they may let you wear long sleeve shirts. But, frankly, they're probably not going to hire someone with lots of tattoos. That image doesn't exactly scream "safe driver." The same goes double for body piercings.

You may have a hard time finding a valet parking job if you're a tobacco user. Sure, you know better that to smoke while parking a car. Everyone does. But many people who smoke have a very hard time fighting off the urge to sneak off and have a quick one. And if you leave a tobacco odor in a non-smokin guest's car, they're going to be very upset. What about drug use? Uh...what do you think?

So if you look good, don't use tobacco or drugs, and have mostly obeyed the law, you're a great candidate for a valet parking service attendant. Don't waste your time with fast food, and don't tear up your car delivering for Pizza Hut. Start parking cars!
