Everybody says the money is in the list and truthfully, theyre right. But if you dont have much of a list to speak of, there may not be much money. Here are 3 tips for making the most of your list building efforts.

1. Ask for the Opt-In Everywhere: Include opt-in forms on your content pages and other places where you provide valuable information to your potential customers. If people love your content, theyre going to want more of it and its the perfect opportunity to offer them more. Be sure to include a good headline and a compelling reason to subscribe to go with your opt-in form.

2. Offer a Subscription in Your Distributed Content: Use your article bylines, YouTube videos, targeted advertising campaigns etc. to promote more of your free mailing list, instead of a product. Conversion to a product sale will be lower than getting them into an opt-in list and once you have them on your opt-in list, you can reach your prospects over and over again.

3. Get your subscribers to tell their friends about you. Part of this will be accomplished naturally by creating stellar content that people will want to talk about, but it sure doesnt hurt to ask your readers to pass it on. You might also want to create an incentive program to help encourage people to spread the word if they love what you have to say.

There are many ways to build a list, but try to concentrate on subscribing those who most fit your ideal or target consumer, who will be eager for more content. Aiming for those who already read your content is the best way to start. After they have opted in, you are then able to market to them again and again.
