Advertising on the Internet is quickly becoming the best way to attract potential clients to your business. Having a solid web-presence has never been more important as the internet has become the default resource for billions of people to find pretty much whatever they want to find, and this is becoming the case for more and more people.

This is the reason that online advertising is important if you want your business to stay afloat in the ever-moving, harsh waters of commerce. In years to come a lot of traditional business methods will become redundant as new generations of technology-competent people replace the older generations of traditionalists. For your business to thrive in the future it is essential that your secure a good online presence now.

The three most commonly used methods of online advertising are Cost Per Click (or pay-per-click), Cost Per Action (or Cost Per Acquisition) and Cost Per Impression.

Cost per click / pay per click: Using this system, advertisers are charged a pre-agreed amount every time their advert is clicked on. They dont pay for the ad itself, only when the listing is clicked on does the advertiser get charged. This system is popular because it allows for accurate market research to be carried out because each click can be analysed.

Cost Per Action / Acquisition: This advertising method is based on performance and is commonplace in the affiliate marketing business. Using this system, the host of the ad takes all the risk of placing it, and the advertiser is only charged for the converted user, i.e. the users that complete the desired transaction.

Cost Per Impression (CPM): With the third popular kind of online advertising, the advertiser pays for the exposure of their ad to a specific audience. CPM prices are worked out per thousand impressions. However, impressions that occur as a result of page reloading or internal user activity will not be counted. The M in CPM stands for the Roman numeral for one thousand.

One of the biggest benefits of Internet advertising (apart from access to a far bigger target audience) is that the listings can be placed straight away regardless of physical location, and can then be changed should customer requirements change.
