Dante's Peak: Formulaic yet amusing catastrophe film where we see a scientist from the U.S. Geological Study who hangs around a mountainside town in Washington just beside a volcano that he feels is going to blow at some second. Above the Law: This is Steven Segal's breakout movie. He plays a Chicago Police man who takes matters into his own hands. As the title implies, he is 'above the law'. He uses his large body and martial arts skills to wreak havoc on the bad guys. Stars include Steven Segal, Pam Grier, and Sharon Stone. (1988 Action)
J.F.K.: This film takes a look back at the investigation after the assassination of President Kennedy. This movie delves into some of the details surrounding the assassination that have fueled many conspiracy theories. The speculations brought forth here are that Kennedy was 'removed' so that Johnson could take over and he would proceed aggressively into the Vietnam War, which J.F.K. was not doing.
Hannie Caulder: Weird, mystical Western in regards to raped, widowed, and destitute lady who asks reward hunter Culp to instruct her to shoot so she could seek retribution. Nice notion to have poor men Borgnine, Elam and Martin play it a la The 3 Stooges, although laughter is vitiated by their gory killings. Cast includes Raquel Welch, Robert Culp, Ernest Borgnine, Jack Elam, Strother Martin, Christopher Lee, and Diana Dors. (85 minutes, 1971)
Mrs. Doubtfire: Warm-gratifying comedy with earnest overtones in reference to a free soul whose spouse divorces him after fourteen years. He couldn't bear being split apart from his 3 babies, so he camouflages himself as a dowdy British housekeeper (under an Oscar quality makeup job) and gets himself employed to look after them. Williams is in top form, and director Columbus keeps tale and characters moderately practical in an effort to drive home a humanistic message. Cast includes Robin Williams, Sally Territory, Pierce Brosnan, Harvey Fierstein, Polly Holliday, Lisa Jakob, Matthew Lawrence, and Mara Wilson. (125 minutes, 1993)
Stage Fright: Theater student Wyman turns covert sleuth while an actress' spouse is killed. There are some stimulating scenes however the Mr. Hitchcock misses on this one. Cast includes Marlene Dietrich, Jane Wyman, Richard Todd, Kay Walsh, Aastair Sim, Joyce Grenfell, Sybil Thorndike, and Patricia Hitchcock. (110 minutes, 1950)

Singin in The Rain : This may be the best film lyrical of all time, styled by Betty Comden and Adolph Green from a catalogue of Arthur Freed-Nacio Herb Brown melodies. The setting is Hollywood throughout the shift to talkies, with Hagen giving the performance of a lifetime. Cast includes Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, Donald O'Connor, Jean Hagen, Cyd Charisse, Madge Blake, and Rita Moreno. (102 minutes, 1952)
